XPeng, a Chinese EV manufacturer, is no stranger to cutting-edge automotive technology. It unveiled the P7 sedan in 2020, which had 200 miles more EV range than the Tesla Model 3. With its G9 SUV, it is now focusing on charging speed.
The new flagship model can charge at up to 480 kW, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in 15 minutes (or 124 miles in 5 minutes). In the United States, we can only get 350 kW fast chargers (and even then, you’ll need a fairly new or premium EV to support that speed).
Of course, you’ll need to use one of the company’s chargers in China to see that fast charging rate. However, XPeng intends to bring the G9 to European markets, so perhaps 480 kW chargers will follow.
Aside from its charging technology, the G9 appears to have almost everything you’d want in a premium mid-size electric SUV. Its design and leather-filled interior are reminiscent of luxury car brands, and its dual-motor 4WD models can produce up to 551 hp.
The G9, which is powered by two NVIDIA Orin chips, also has 31 sensors and dual-LiDAR sensors, as well as automatic driving and parking assistance.
