Gearbox Software announced several months ago that a new Tales from the Borderlands game would be released this year, with the title New Tales from the Borderland. CEO Randy Pitchford appeared at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live showcase to reveal additional information about the game.

Pitchford praised the original game, a narrative-driven point-and-click adventure set in the Borderlands universe created by Telltale Games. Gearbox brought in some of the writers who worked on the first game for New Tales from the Borderlands, according to Pitchford.
The latest title introduces three new main characters (Anu, Octavio, and Fran) as well as a new storyline. The trailer suggests that it will have offbeat humor and a lot of guns, as one would expect from a Borderlands game.
There will also appear to be a few minigames. While New Tales from the Borderlands retains the series’ distinct art style, the visuals appear to have been improved since Gearbox switched to Unreal Engine.
