We Are OFK, a new project from Hyper Light Drifter co-designer Teddy Dief and their collaborators at Team OFK, was announced at the 2020 edition of The Game Awards. It was supposed to debut in spring 2021, but as has been the case in recent years, it was pushed back.
We Are OFK now has an official release date. Or, more precisely, release dates, as it is an episodic series. On August 18th, the first two episodes will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The remaining three episodes will be released weekly.
We Are OFK is a documentary about a virtual four-piece indie band called, strangely enough, OFK. It’s billed as an interactive musical biopic about OFK’s own beginnings.
According to Dief on the PlayStation Blog, “What would it look like to create virtual musicians who watch [pop stars] performances on their laptops in bed, knowing they’ll never play a stadium concert?
We wanted to tell that story about how difficult it is to make music, to write even one song, to record another video to post online and hope for a nice comment.”
The game is $20. OFK and Sony Music Masterworks will release a new single with each episode. Iam8bit will sell a vinyl package of the singles for $32. We Are OFK is also available for pre-order on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. You can also pre-order the band’s debut EP.
