Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have a number of AI tricks up their sleeves, including a Live Translate feature. The Pixel 6 can translate the text as you type thanks to Google’s first mobile chip, Tensor.
Because the translation is handled by the Private Compute Core rather than the cloud, the device can almost instantly convert what you’re writing into other languages (including English, French, German, Italian, and Japanese).
Messages sent to you can also be translated using the phones. When text in a chat app, such as WhatsApp or Snapchat, is in a language other than your own, the Pixel 6 can detect it and offer a translation.
The feature should come in handy when chatting with friends from other parts of the world who speak a different language and may not understand all of your nuances. When you’re traveling somewhere with limited data and WiFi connectivity, Live Translate could come in handy.
Google is emphasizing Tensor-powered AI features in Pixel 6 devices. Along with Live Translate, the phones have improved speech recognition and other language detection features.
There’s a Wait Time feature that shows how long you’ll be on hold for thousands of well-known companies in the United States. The Pixel 6 is also capable of converting automated call center menus into an onscreen interface.
