With Instagram global popularity, there’s a good chance you’ve come across Stories that aren’t in English or any other language you’re familiar with. Until now, you had to leave the app to figure out what those messages were saying.

Not any longer. Instagram has introduced a new feature that will translate any foreign text you see in Stories, and it is now being rolled out to users worldwide.

When the app detects that you are viewing a Story in another language, it will display a “See Translation” prompt in the upper left corner of the interface. To see the text in your native language, simply tap the banner.

With today’s launch, the feature can now translate text between more than 90 languages though it does not yet support audio. Inevitably, this means that there will be Stories in which you may not understand what someone is saying.

Still, it’s a step in the right direction toward making Instagram as inclusive as possible. People can also use Instagram’s newly added auto-captioning feature to circumvent the current translation limitation.
