The artist Love Hulten has invented VOC-25, a vocal synthesizer where each of the keys is represented by a set of plastic teeth. Guess what, it’s just as freaky in performance as it appears.
When you play a piece, you’ll watch the teeth clatter as they form a digital choir. The concept is inspired by inventor Simone Giertz’s quest to make an instrument out of teeth but finally manages to be unsettling.
The vocal synthesizer is a functional device that requires you to load audio samples into the console through USB, then an Axoloti board translates MIDI input to DC currents through control boards inside the display monitor of the PC-like set.
Then the custom keyboards direct your chorus. The vocal synthesizer is a fully self-contained machine that uses built-in speakers to play your output, and you can also use a mono output to avoid getting unwanted noise.

We’re not immediately sure if the vocal synthesizer is coming to stores so people can purchase, just like Love Hulten’s other work, though not that we’d expect many to have the courage to buy it. But the work is proof that a synthesizer can be conversation pieces in their own.
