Apple isn’t the only big brand removing charger from the pack of its latest smartphones. As spotted on Reddit, Xiaomi has just joined, saying its upcoming Mi 11 phone won’t include a charger in the box.
Although many people already have old chargers on the ground, they are expected to use their old chargers as doing so will be, “more environmentally friendly”; there’ll be devices with less waste and smaller packaging.
Xiaomi has announced a fixed conference on December 28th where it will discuss the decision extensively. Though the company very well acknowledges the choice would be unreasonable for some customers.
Xiaomi is not finding the decision easy with critics who have already descended on the manufacturer for taking the step. While there is an environmental argument to made for shipping fewer chargers, the decision will help Xiaomi spend less on packaging its product.
The tech giant by this move can maintain or grow its profit margins, especially for those customers that buy an official charger. That could include careful people who already have chargers from the old purchases. Users can’t really take advantage of fast charging unless they have a compatible adapter.
The decision is not expected to affect North Americans and some other places where Xiaomi has a limited audience much. Since it could easily set the stage for what is coming.
With what Xiaomi has announced and Samsung also saying it’s skipping the charger with the Galaxy S21, there are high chance customers will find it very difficult to find any high-quality smartphone with a charger in the box in 2021.
