Twitter’s most-liked tweet record has been broken although not with a pleasant news. The social media company confirmed ‘via Deadline’ that Chadwick Boseman’s death announcement on Twitter, by his family, is the “most-liked tweet ever.”
The Black Panther star’s death announcement scooped 7.7 million likes as of the afternoon of August 29th, although that number appears to have grown even more 1as of this writing.
Chadwick passed away from colon cancer at age 43 on August 28th after a four-year battle against the disease. The news of his death prompted an outpouring of grief and sympathy, including likes and retweets from celebrities and groups like Dwayne Johnson, The Academy, and the NAACP.
Some of his last projects were for Netflix, including Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods and the yet-to-premiere Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
Twitter’s most-liked tweets were previously held by happier posts from the likes of Barack Obama, BTS, and Ariana Grande, among others. That notwithstanding, it does reflect one point, that Twitter is growing even with pressure coming from Instagram, TikTok, and other social media giants.
